Countdown to 2027: Lead-Containing Products to Exit EU Market

The amendments to the EU RoHS directive exemptions, published by the European Commission in November 2025, will further restrict the use of lead, particularly in steel, aluminium, and copper. The most significant change concerns exemption 6(c), which allows the use of lead in copper alloys. The exemption has been extended only for a limited period, and its further renewal is considered unlikely. If no additional extension is granted, products containing lead may no longer be placed on the EU market after 30 June 2027.

Proactive planning and clear communication support a smooth transition

LAPP is preparing for the changes proactively and ensuring that customers will continue to have access to compliant products in the future. We already offer a wide range of lead‑free brass cable glands, enabling our customers to transition to new materials well ahead of the deadline. At the same time, we are systematically reviewing our entire product portfolio: identifying products covered by RoHS exemptions, developing replacement solutions, updating technical documentation, and ensuring that the supply chain supports new lead‑free material options.

We are also investing in active communication and customer support so that our customers receive timely information about the impact of the changes and can plan their own transitions without risk. Our goal is to ensure high product availability and a seamless shift to solutions that comply with the new RoHS requirements.
