On the safe side: Norms and standards
Standards provide guidelines for manufacturers, installers and inspectors to ensure that data and electricity flow safely, efficiently and reliably, for example by ensuring that cables and electrical lines meet quality and safety standards. Connection solutions from LAPP comply with these standards. An overview of the most important standards.
VDE (Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies)
VDE is a German association that develops standards and guidelines for electrical and electronic products. VDE standards cover various aspects, including safety, performance and installation of cables and electrical lines for power and data connections.
IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission)
The global non-profit commission is active in more than 170 countries and develops international standards for electrical engineering, electronics and related technologies - with the aim of ensuring the safety, efficiency, reliability and interoperability of cables and electrical lines, for example.
BS (British Standards)
The national standardisation body in Great Britain was the first of its kind in the world. Their standards include guidelines for various aspects of connection technology, which are similar to IEC standards but may also include specific requirements for the UK market.
What special requirements do cables and wires in the infrastructure have to fulfil?
LAPP develops high-quality cables and components for the ever-changing challenges associated with modern infrastructure. The basis for this is, among other things, a reliable fibre optic connection. The following things are crucial for this: fast and reliable transmission of large amounts of data in lines that are metal-free, interference-free and tap-proof. At the same time, fibres, cables and components must be of the highest quality to ensure trouble-free operation. This includes the use of halogen-free, low-smoke and flame-retardant solutions with optimised fire behaviour for both data and power cabling. The safety potential can be increased by using cables with additional insulation or functional integrity.
The global market leader in connection solutions considers itself responsible for doing its part to ensure that the technology is rolled out quickly and is reliably available.
What should you bear in mind for your product selection?
High-quality products and easy assembly are crucial factors when it comes to selection. If one of the cables becomes brittle or malfunctions, it affects all the other cables from the same drum. Since new installations and removals can be very expensive in this case, investing in durable and high-quality material is worthwhile in the long term.
When buying data and power cables, you should pay attention to the following points:
The growing demand for power and data performance in the networked world also requires more powerful cables and components. The infrastructure must do justice to these developments. The focus is therefore on larger capacities for power and data cables, which meet the increased demand for power and data performance in companies, for example. Increasingly complex and extensive tasks also lead to more data capacity and therefore a stronger data and power infrastructure. For the best possible reliability, exceptional weather resistance to heat, wind and frost and protection against rodents are also recommended.
Why choose LAPP products for infrastructure?
We have a broad portfolio that guarantees you complete solutions from a single source - all based on our decades of manufacturing and project expertise. We are constantly developing our products and services. Striving for the greatest possible durability, robustness and extreme flexibility is what drives us. Thanks to special jacket materials, LAPP solutions are not only flame-retardant and halogen-free, but also resistant to ozone and UV. Our cables and connectors can also withstand extreme weather conditions such as heat, wind and frost, also making them perfect for use in your outdoor installations.
The transfer of energy and the high resistance heat up cables and connectors, and the constant change between hot and cold due to heating during operation causes cables and connectors to become brittle. In close co-operation with users, the TÜV and the North American UL approval institute, a large number of tests and performance tests were carried out with our ÖLFLEX® cables and SKINTOP® cable glands. This enables us to guarantee our quality standards. Our products are suitable for use worldwide and, of course, are RoHS-compliant.
Can't find the right product for your needs? Together, we can develop individual solutions, tailor-made for you. Our experts would be delighted to advise you.
Incidentally: expert knowledge is required not only when selecting the components used, but also for assembling and using the components correctly. We would be glad to assist you on site as well.
Everything from a single source. With us as your partner from idea to realisation. Our project business team will be happy to advise you on the planning and realisation of your project.
