LAPP Harnessing Solutions: The complete solution in your hands

With the LAPP Harnessing Solutions service, LAPP offers more than just cable assembly. The services range from design to precise delivery, supporting customers worldwide in optimizing their processes.

Michael Seddig, CEO & COO EMEA
We wanted to know what it’s all about! In this interview, Michael Seddig, CEO & COO EMEA, talks about the importance of quality, flexibility, and sustainability in demanding industries, as well as the company’s international growth strategies.
The promising term “carefree complete package” is used in connection with LAPP Harnessing Solutions. What does this term mean for LAPP?
“The ‘carefree complete package’ refers to our range of services that goes far beyond simple cable assembly – or ‘harnessing’. It means comprehensive solutions that cover everything from consulting and design to manufacturing, delivery, and continuous quality assurance. Our goal is to support customers at every stage – from selecting the right products to integrating them into their processes.
It begins with consulting and choosing the right cables and components. This ensures that the products not only meet the customer’s immediate requirements but also perform optimally in the intended application. This includes testing, ensuring robust connections, and preparing technical drawings and documentation. Essentially, we don’t just want to offer a product; we want to deliver a ready‑to‑install solution that is tailored to their needs and is reliable.”
So you work closely with customers from development all the way to implementation. Does LAPP also support customers in optimizing existing solutions?
“Absolutely! Very often customers already have an idea of which components they need for an assembly, but they do not always make the best possible choice. This may relate to overall cost‑effectiveness or to the strength and durability of the components.
In such cases, we offer our expertise to help find the best solution. For example, we may suggest alternative cables or connectors that perform better in certain applications – such as those requiring a smaller bending radius or better durability in dynamic environments. We understand countless applications and have broad insight into the different use cases of our customers, which enables us to provide precise recommendations on how our components can be used in the most efficient and cost‑effective way.”

Let’s talk about the term “LAPP Harnessing Solutions”, which is used to describe the assembly service. Why this term, and what does it represent?
“The term ‘LAPP Harnessing Solutions’ is actually international in nature. Our Harnessing Solutions are not produced only in Germany – we have extensive operations across the EMEA region thanks to our numerous production sites. Our teams in the Americas and the Asia-Pacific region also have fully capable manufacturing facilities, which means we can provide customers with global service whenever needed. We work closely together and always choose the best manufacturing location in alignment with the customer.
At the same time, we wanted a name that reflects our comprehensive range of services. ‘Cable assembly’ is a familiar term, but we offer far more than that. With the term ‘Harnessing Solutions’, we communicate that we deliver complete connection solutions from a single source – from cables and connectors to fully integrated system solutions. This sets us apart because we don’t just supply individual products; we provide entire systems that are optimally coordinated with one another.”

What about production? Do you also deliver customized solutions, or does LAPP focus more on mass production?
“We serve both. We have efficient production lines that enable the high‑volume manufacturing of large quantities. At the same time, we also offer customized, customer‑specific solutions in both large and small quantities – even down to batch size 1. This makes us particularly attractive to medium‑sized companies, which often require smaller volumes. But it also makes us appealing to larger companies, where product diversity can be a critical factor. For us, it is essential to be able to respond flexibly to our customers’ needs. This ensures that all products – whether manufactured in high or low quantities – are equally high in quality, and that we are seen as a reliable partner.”
LAPP supplies assembly solutions to many different industries, from automation to the chemical sector. These industries have their own specific requirements. How do you ensure that products withstand such demanding conditions?
“We have extensive in‑house testing facilities and laboratories, where our products are tested under extreme conditions. We evaluate their resistance to environmental influences such as saltwater, extreme temperatures, and chemical substances. In addition, we have dedicated teams that ensure our products comply with the standards and regulations of each industry, such as automotive or food processing.”

Quality is an important topic, but how does LAPP succeed in communicating this to customers – especially at a time when price is often the decisive factor?
“That is indeed a challenge. Our strength lies in the breadth of our offering, which ranges from manual production to highly automated manufacturing processes. We can respond flexibly to our customers’ needs, whether they are in Europe, Asia, or the Americas. Customers recognize the added value when they see that we not only deliver quality, but also adhere to delivery times, ensuring continuity in their own supply chains. Quality is not just a promise — it is an investment in safety and reliability. At first glance or when evaluated in isolation, it may appear more expensive, but in the long term, or when looking at total cost of ownership, it actually saves money and stress by avoiding production downtime or safety issues.”
What distinguishes LAPP from its competitors?
“We are a globally operating company. Many of our competitors operate primarily on a local level, which limits their reach. We, on the other hand, provide LAPP Harnessing Solutions worldwide. That is our advantage.
Secondly, we are not only a service provider but also a manufacturer. Many other providers of harnessing services purchase their products externally, whereas we manufacture our own cables and connectors. This allows us to directly influence quality and offer tailored, customer‑specific solutions. At the same time, we possess manufacturing know‑how and in‑depth product expertise that goes beyond standard knowledge.
And thirdly, our quality standards are exceptionally high. This is another factor that sets us apart from the competition.”

What role does sustainability play at LAPP? Has customer demand for it increased?
“Sustainability is not just important to us – it is our responsibility. And it will play an even greater role for us in the future. Many of our customers are demanding sustainable solutions, and we take this very seriously. We continually strive to optimize our production processes and materials, for example by using recyclable materials or reducing raw material consumption in packaging. We also use bio‑based materials in our products and aim to reduce the use of plastics and other environmentally harmful substances. At the same time, we are investing in sustainable energy sources and highly energy‑efficient systems at our production facilities.”
You mentioned earlier the international approach – which is certainly connected to your growth targets. Are there specific markets where you aim to expand with LAPP Harnessing Solutions?
“We have refined our strategy within the Harnessing Solutions business unit and are expanding our markets and partnerships in a targeted way. This includes promising sectors such as battery technology. This field is growing rapidly, especially in connection with the automotive industry, and we aim to establish a strong position there. But of course, there are many other growth and target markets we are focusing on. Europe – especially Germany – remains an important market for us, where we continue to see additional growth potential for LAPP.”
